Masculinity and Wellness in the New Millenium

Randy Flood, Director of the Men’s Resource Center at Fountain Hill, presented to Western Michigan University’s Holistic Health Class. This included 4 sections, totaling 880 students. We discussed how rigid male socialization can be toxic to healthy human development. The lecture discussed issues such as pornography, domestic violence, bullying in schools, and intimacy in relationships. The students responded well to exercises and discussion on how males are pressured into hyper-masculine gender roles resulting in problems with emotional awareness and intimacy.
