It might seem unusual for a counseling and therapy center to publicly celebrate the anniversary of its founding. But the Men’s Resource Center of West Michigan (MRC) is, itself, unusual. Co-founder and Director, Randy Flood, M.A., L.L.P., describes the decision he and Charlie Donaldson, M.A., L.L.P. made in 2000 as: “an audacious, some would say, not a good business plan to create a center for the people or a segment of society that was not using mental health services at the time.”
Twenty-five years later, the MRC has quietly become a powerful force for change: choosing a path that holds men responsible for their behavior while recognizing the wounds beneath it. Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with men?” the question becomes “What happened to this man?” Over these 25 years, the MRC has become a national leader in men’s behavioral health. Its programs have helped thousands of men confront emotional pain, take accountability, and grow into healthier partners, fathers, and human beings.
In this special episode of the Revealing Men podcast, Flood and therapist emeritus, Al Heystek, look back on the lessons, breakthroughs, and hopes that have helped shape the MRC for a quarter century and their vision for the future. Together, they reflect on what it truly means to help men heal and grow.
