Not only do sexual predators and immature adults use current technology to inappropriately engage youth, that same technology has created unprecedented access and mediums for sexual acting out among young people. This program addresses how our boys and young people are being caught up in the web of Internet pornography, sex addiction, and sexting.
Social networking and exposure to pornography
By purchasing high-speed Internet and smart phones without appropriate filtering mechanisms, parents unwittingly provide unfettered access for their children to pornographic imagery. Consequently, our youth are experiencing problems with premature exposure to powerfully intoxicating sexual stimuli. At minimum, this exposure can negatively impact their beliefs about self, women, and relationships. For some, it can lead to sexual acting out behavior and sex addiction.
The proliferation of social networking is a powerful tool that can turn toxic for some children who may find attention and interpersonal connection electronically in the absence of more meaningful and safe connections in their personal social setting.
The Men’s Resource Center of West Michigan will help participants understand these issues and their impact on male development, prevention strategies, and treatment options.
