An addiction to sex is a compulsive behavior that interferes with normal living and causes severe stress on family, friends, loved ones, and can create financial and legal consequences. While seldom diagnosed and treated, it’s estimated that ten percent of men are sexually-addicted. Anyone can be a sex addict. Sex addiction doesn’t present the same in everyone. For example, some men only obsessively use Internet pornography and compulsively masturbate, while others engage in promiscuity. Some men prefer pay-for-sex encounters arranged through online transactions, in certain adult entertainment establishments, and in personal encounters through prostitution and escort services, while others pursue the romantic highs in serial relationships. As with any addiction, sexual addiction is progressive and the costs mount, including divorce, duplicity, disease, economic losses, shame, anxiety, depression, and loneliness.
The Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST) below is an anonymous self-assessment that assists in the screening of sexually compulsive or addictive behavior.
