Men’s support groups at the Men’s Resource Center of West Michigan provide men — young and older — opportunities for support, education, challenge, and growth. And, they are particularly effective in treating men’s issues. Although some men may be initially reluctant to enter a support group, they quickly become comfortable in the setting and enjoy the interaction with other men who face similar personal struggles.
The Men’s Resource Center provides a thorough 1:1 intake assessment to match counseling needs with individual and/or group counseling and therapy services. All of our ongoing men’s support groups have goals and approaches tailored to individual needs. Each is facilitated by a highly-trained counselor or therapist who is knowledgeable about the issue at hand. This experience paves the way for effective living outside of the group.
My own health and humanity
With the support and acceptance of the staff at the Men’s Resource Center and of my fellow participants in a weekly men’s therapy group, I am slowly learning to push through my fear and to experience and take responsibility for my own emotions, not as something bad but as part of my own health and humanity.
Men’s Support Groups address many issues
Our men’s support groups address topics such as relationship issues, trauma, family of origin issues, parenthood, anger management, sexuality, sex addiction, domestic abuse, and drug and alcohol abuse.
Additionally, we provide periodic extended group therapy sessions (e.g. 6 hours) with guest psychotherapists for our existing group therapy clients. We have found that these extended sessions provide a rich and varied group experience for men to address issues and experience healing and growth.
